Our Family Law team is headed by two directors, Jane Young and Angela Simpson.

 

They are able to provide sympathetic, straightforward and sensible advice with a view to settling financial matters and issues relating to children which may arise on separation or on divorce.

 

The adversarial court system is not designed to facilitate amicable negotiation. It can also be very expensive. Our belief is that wherever possible family issues should be kept away from the courts.

 

Sometimes of course it is not appropriate or indeed possible to avoid court proceedings. If matters do require to proceed to court both Jane and Angela have extensive court experience covering all courts in the Highlands.

 

Jane qualified as a solicitor in 1989 and has been practising exclusively in family law since joining Innes & Mackay in 1991. She is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Family Law Mediator. She is a member of the Family Law Association and is on the Panel of Safeguarders and Reporters appointed by the Court.

 

Angela qualified as a solicitor in 1986 and joined Innes & Mackay in 2002. She specialises in Family Law including divorce, separation and child related issues. She is regularly instructed by the Court to prepare Reports dealing with Residence and Contact matters and appointed as a curator ad litem to preserve and protect children’s interests during court proceedings. Angela is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Family Law Mediator and is a member of the Family Law Association.

 

Hildegard Draycott also forms part of the family law team. She holds an English practising certificate and is able to advise on family law across the border.
